Benidorm Cultural Attractions

Castle Viewpoint - Balcon del Mediterraneo
The Balcon del Mediterraneo are the remains of a 14th Century fortress, which was built high on the Cerro Canfali headland, to warn the people below of the impending attacks of Algerian pirates. The fortress was abandoned sometime during the 16th Century, and today all visitors are able to see of this once mighty structure, are the remains of the walls that lie on the rocks of the viewpoint.

The Church of Saint James
Built between 1740 and 1780 in a neoclassical style, the Church of Saint James is situated near to the Canfali Viewpoint, high above Benidorm old town. Dedicated to San Jaime, the patron saint of the town, the church is instantly recognisable by its blue-tiled domed roof.

Inside the church, visitors are able to see a small wooden statue of the Virgen del Sufragio, which, as the story goes, was found on a boat adrift on the high seas. Each November during the fiesta in honor of St. James and Our Lady of Suffrage, there is a re-enactment of the discovery of the Virgin in 1740.

L'Aiguera Park
Designed by the architect Ricardo Bofill in a neoclassical style, L'Aiguera Park is a long green park which separates the old quarter of Benidorm from the newer buildings. The park extends as far as the Bullring, where visitors will find a small bullfighting museum along with the installations of the Municipal Music Conservatory.

During the summer months, L'Aiguera Park is also a popular entertainment venue as both the “Julio Iglesias” and “Oscar Espl8221; concert halls are both situated here. Visitors to the park will also find a fairground site where many attractions are set up for the local fiestas.

Maritime Cultural Centre
The Benidorm Maritime Cultural Centre is situated next to the harbour on the Paseo de Colon, and is a permanent exhibition of model ships and other nautical exhibits, such as fishing boats, anchors and knots. The centre was established as a permanent reminder of the achievements of local seamen, and unlike many other attractions in Benidorm, entrance is free of charge.

Tossal de la Cala
Situated at the end of the Poniente beach, Tossal de la Cala is an Iberian settlement which was built between the 3rd and 1st Century BC. Tossal de La Cala is one of the nicest cultural sights of Benidorm, and the restored part of the site can be visited by going past the Poniente beach and looking for the intersection of La Cala. From there you can then follow the signs leading to the area.

Cavall Peak and Morales Tower
Morales Tower is a former 16th Century watchtower from where guards would scan the horizon to give an early warning of an impending raid by Algerian pirates.
